HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas (KWTX) — Students at Vintage Christian Academy raised more than $15,000 for a nine-year-old classmate fighting cancer for the second time, earning the coveted reward of shaving their principal’s head.

Jazmyne Guillen, a third-grader at the school, has been battling cancer and is currently in treatment. The school, connected with Vintage Church, spent two weeks raising funds for her medical expenses.

Students from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade filed into the auditorium Friday for “The Great Warrior Buzz Off” to learn how much money was raised and to watch Principal Robert “Coach” Bacon get his head shaved.

“All the students have been coming up to me today to say ‘do you know this is going to happen to you later?’” Bacon said.

While Jazmyne couldn’t attend due to her treatment, she watched the event via FaceTime as students learned they had raised more than $7,000. The lead pastor then doubled the amount, bringing the total to $15,554.66.

“7 is mentioned biblically for divine fulfillment and this is something that we want to be divine and it’s amazing fulfillment for what we are trying to do,” Bacon said.

Jazmyne’s third-grade classmates raised the most money among all grade levels.

Bacon took his seat as student after student took turns shaving his head, with cheers erupting after each swipe.

Jazmyne’s father, Gregory Guillen, served as the FaceTime cameraman during the event.

“I’m feeling super appreciative and really humbled about this whole experience, the school and VCA, just everyone coming together for Jazmyne,” Gregory Guillen said.
