Dog rescued from Killeen home months ago ready for adoption in time for Christmas

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - A dog that was rescued from a Killeen home earlier this year is waiting for a Christmas miracle after spending months recovering from the abuse she endured at the hands of her owner.
Now, she waits for a forever home.
Her name is Goldie and when she was brought to Killeen Animal Services she was malnourished, losing her fur and had open wounds from Mange.
Leila Memminger, the manager at animal services, says thanks to Jack Jacks Pack Street Dog Rescue based out of Austin, Goldie was able to receive life-saving treatments to help her get her voice back.
Goldie today is unrecognizable compared to the shell of a soul that showed up at animal services earlier this year. She is full of fur and fully fed.
“Whenever we get that good, positive outcome, it helps us continue to do what we do,” Memminger says.
Goldie has spent many months with a foster who has been huge in her recovery. Killeen Animal Services bring Goldie’s story back into the lime light because it’s the success stories that keep them coming back, especially on the hard days.
“Sometimes people don’t see the end result of what we do and that we’re just here to advocate for the animals that can’t speak for themselves,” she says. “That makes me come back to work everyday and enjoy my job because. I love my job, I love what I do and I love being a voice for the animals that don’t have one.”
