MCGREGOR, Texas (KWTX) - On October 7, 2012, SpaceX launched its Dragon capsule atop a Falcon 9 rocket into space.
Known as the CRS-1 mission, this was the first of 12 commercial supply missions to the International Space Station, as part of a $1.6 billion cargo resupply contract with NASA.
Despite losing one of its engines due to a sudden loss of chamber pressure, Falcon 9 put Cargo Dragon in a near-perfect orbit for a rendezvous with the orbital outpost.
While this mission took off from Florida, SpaceX’s facility in McGregor is the company’s primary rocket development and test site.
