ROGERS, Texas (KWTX) - Community members in Rogers recently came together to donate 140 posters with the Ten Commandments, gifting them to their local school district last week.

“That takes care of every classroom across the entire district, from our elementary, our middle, our high school,” shared Rogers ISD Superintendent Dauna Brashear.

C&C Land Services led the effort, asking the community for donations in order to be able to buy them for the district.

“There was such an overwhelming amount of donations and support they also added a copy of the Texas pledge and a copy of the United States pledge,” Superintendent Brashear said.

On September 1st SB 10, the bill requiring primary and secondary schools in Texas to display the Ten Commandments, became law.

But because of legal opposition schools aren’t yet required to actually post them. Some districts have even been told they can’t post them because of ongoing litigation.

“We get the same questions that I think everybody gets about posting, which is ‘how will the legal opposition impact Rogers ISD?’, what I’ll say at this point is it doesn’t,” Superintendent Brashear explained.

That’s because the law also says that districts must display privately donated posters that meet the requirements.

“That was really clear in legislation, is that the financial burden is not on the district, which is why you post if donated,” Superintendent Brashear said.

She adds that since these came from their community, it was an easy decision for Rogers ISD. Soon their district will hand out the new posters to every campus.

“The principals will give out to the teachers and the teachers will hang them in their room where it suits them, we are not mandating where or how,” Superintendent Brashear shared.

And while she’s not surprised that their community would do this for them, she and the district are grateful to C&C Land Services and the other donors.
