BELTON, Texas (KWTX) - Americans from coast to coast took the time to observe the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, only a day after the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

“Never forget,” said Travis Trumbull, the owner of The Gin at Nolan Creek. “Honoring all those who, not only who lost their lives that day, but honor them and everyone who served since.”

Trumbull is a retired Army veteran who enlisted after 9/11.

“Probably one of the most important things you can do for your country,” said Trumbull. “Not just as a service member but even a teacher, law enforcement, first responders, firefighter. It’s about being part of something bigger than yourself.”

A chair leans at the bar with a full beer that will no longer have a person to drink it. A second chair sits in honor of Charlie Kirk who was assassinated at Utah Valley University on Sept. 10.

It’s a traditional way to honor the fallen and Trumbull said it has nothing to do with politics.

“Having the courage to fight for you country is something a lot of people don’t have or have the ability to do,” said Trumbull. “So, it doesn’t matter what side of the isle you’re on, it’s that fact that he had the courage to stand up.”

Trumbull says he didn’t set the places for 9-11 and Kirk to get attention but to honor fellow Americans who lost their lives in tragedies.
