WACO, Texas (KWTX) - On October 22nd, 1965, Texas-born President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Highway Beautification Act into law.
A project of First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson, the Highway Beautification Act limits things like billboards, junkyards, and other roadside messes along interstate highways.
Scenic enhancement was encouraged through the act by funding local efforts to landscape along roadways.
The goal, to preserve a small part of nature and give Americans a cleaner and more beautiful place to live.
