Amazon Prime drone deliveries now available in Waco, Texas
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Amazon is transforming how you get deliveries in Waco. Not by car, but by air.
Amazon and Prime Air are upgrading the delivery process by using drones to drop off packages to your home in under an hour.
The company said it wants to bring more options so central Texans can get packages quickly and conveniently.
For Amazon fans like Mary Olivarez, they said they’re excited for Amazon’s MK30 drones to take the delivery process to new heights
“I use it almost on a weekly basis. This is going to be a blessing, I’m excited,” said Olivarez.
Amazon said the drones can carry multiple items up to five pounds within 60 minutes.
Amazon stated the drones can also deliver to those within the seven-and-a-half-mile radius of the Amazon fulfillment center off Exchange Parkway.
Olivarez said she’s often stuck in traffic and has to run errands, but the Amazon drones could save her a trip.
“In the age we live in sometimes you have to work late, sometimes you don’t have time. Traffic, especially with I-35 right now trying to get from one place to the next. So, this is going to be a blessing,” said Olivarez.
Experts said the drone is a flight monitor and can detect if there’s bad weather or other aircraft in the sky.
Drone operations manager, Christina Carter, said it also has features to avoid porch pirates.
“We’ll let you know when it’s on the way and then we’ll also let you know when it’s delivered so you can be there for it. Depending on where your location is, you can actually pick where you want the package to go,” said Carter.
For Carter, drone delivery makes packages soar but also produces solutions at the same time.
“To get things quickly, be accessible to people that can’t leave their homes and things of that nature. It’s an impact to the community where some people say, ‘Yes, it’s a drone in the air,’ but they don’t understand that could be something someone needed immediately,” said Carter.
Amazon said it hopes these 12 drones can get started by the end of the year.
