WACO, Texas (KWTX) - More people are attending the Heart O’ Texas Fair and Rodeo to see what it has to offer.

Tickets can be as low as $18 dollars a person to as high as $134, but there are ways people can save a few coins.

Joining competitions at the Heart O’ Texas Fair and Rodeo has been a tradition in many families, like the Krolls.

Kaylee and her husband Kelly said they’ve grown up in Waco and have been coming to the fair for over 25 years, but watching their kids Calli and Carter enjoy has been a treat.

“Obviously, the mutton bustin. Now that we have kids, I’ve been looking forward to this day since the minute I found out I was pregnant,” said Kaylee, “Seeing them go out there, we’re just really proud that they went out there and did it, I’m shocked.”

The Kroll family said they made sure to get tickets early, but they did notice a difference in pricing.

“Everything is expensive today, not just the fair. Groceries, life, everything is expensive. We said today is a splurge day,” said Kaylee.

According to the fair’s website, one gate admission for an adult or a child is $18 dollars but it can vary depending on add ons like rodeo tickets.

The event’s PR director, Erin James said organizers try to have a variety of promotions to cater to the public.

“We try to have a different variety to hit different price points in what’s affordable for everyone on our grounds. We also try to have a variety of what you’re interested in,” said James.

She said this includes school coupon day, five dollars off admission if you bring a canned good for KWTX’s Food For Families’ night on Wednesday, a bundle with gate and rodeo admission tickets as well as a carnival band all for $25, college night and more.

“Everything we try to do here is to raise money for scholarships, but we also try to keep our pricing fair. It’s really hard to go see a concert right now for only 10, 18, $20 bucks,” said James.

The Kroll family said in this economy, it’s only right to save where you can.

“You know, no one wants to pay full price if you don’t have to? Obviously planning your trip around when you can save money, it definitely adds up. You save $10 getting in, you can buy the cotton candy and all of the things,” said Kroll.
