WACO, Texas (KWTX) - She can be a bit quiet, but her impact on the lives of others reaches far across her community.

Daniela Ramirez is a senior at La Vega High School.

As historian on the Student Council, she helps raise money to make those important moments like the senior trip and prom the most memorable nights of their lives.

She said, “It’s a small part, but the same time it can be big because not everybody can pitch the ideas or not everybody can be on Student Council and want what’s best for the class.”

The 17-year-old spends her time volunteering at the elementary school during the Fall and Winter festivals and helping out at the local parades.

One accolade she is proud of is her induction into the National Honor Society as a sophomore.

“It felt good. It felt like an accomplishment because there were juniors at the time, and you know there were a few sophomores. So, I felt really proud of myself.”

From exemplary student to athletic role model.

Daniela said she grew up on the La Vega Little League softball fields.

Starting at 8-years-old. To this day she plays.

She has been on the varsity team at the high school, and she plays on a select team.

She also plays volleyball.

And it’s not just about her growth as a student and an athlete.

She makes time to help coach her little sister’s Little League team.

When asked why she deems it important she said, “It’s just (that) I was in their shoes at one point and I just think if more girls can grow to love the game, it’ll can change their future. It was a big part of my childhood so and I really enjoyed that.”

Her younger brother, who is also in high school, also plays.

It’s a sport in which her whole family has a part.

Her mom cheers them on and dad coaches.

While Daniela is on the receiving end of all that support, she leads by example.

She uses her infectious laughter to make others smile, throwing her support behind others both on and off the field.

She does this because she said, many kids don’t think they are capable of greatness.

“I think that it’s very important to believe in themselves…”

She said, by working hard and displaying good leadership skills, the younger ones see that, and it could set them on the right path where they set bigger goals.

Daniela dreams of playing professional softball.

She also wants to go to Texas Tech and study orthodontics.

Aside from big dreams that could take her away from home for a bit, the thing about community is that it draws you back.

Daniela wants to come back and coach softball when her little sister gets to high school.

Daniela Ramirez is one of the many reasons, KWTX Salutes Hispanic Heritage Month.
