More mid-to-upper 90s are building into Central Texas, along with Heat Index climbing over 105° at times. Due to these extreme Heat Index values, some of our eastern counties have been placed under a Heat Advisory through Thursday evening!

For many of us, Thursday will be the hottest day of the year so far. We will see more upper 90s on the map, and a few of us may hit 100° for the first time this year. Add in the humidity and many locations across Central Texas will see afternoon Heat Index values range between 100-105°. A Heat Advisory has been issued for Leon, and Freestone counties through Thursday evening. In these counties we have the best potential for Heat Index values to exceed 105°.

Throughout the day Thursday and Friday we will be monitoring a tropical wave that will be pushing west across the Gulf. We don’t expect this system to strengthen into anything well organized, but it will bring some isolated rain chances to Central Texas over the weekend.

Next week high pressure will once again build back in across Central Texas, and that will lead to more heat building back in. Highs most of next week will be in the mid-to-upper 90s, with a few areas possibly hitting 100°.
