Labor Day Weekend Event Forecasts
Rain And Cooler Weather Expected Labor Day Weekend
WACO, Texas (KWTX) - With high school and college football season kicking off, along with a jam packed Labor Day weekend ahead, many Central Texans might be concerned about how the weather will impact their holiday plans. Have no fear - the weathermen are here! In this article, you will find forecasts for each event going on this weekend, ranging from college football games, to the Central Texas State Fair in Belton. If you wish to see the general First Alert Forecast for Central Texas, you can find that here.
Tailgate Forecast

For those going to Friday night football games, it might not hurt to be prepared with an umbrella or a poncho, especially for the beginning of these games. Pre kickoff (usually before 6 or 7 PM), a few scattered showers are expected across Central Texas, with temperatures in the upper 80’s and lower 90’s. These showers should clear out after sunset on Friday evening, so the second half of these football games should see the weather begin to clear out! No severe weather is expected on Friday or the whole weekend for that matter, but keep a close eye on the radar. Some of these scattered showers could certainly produce lightning and delay games if they get near enough. Our free KWTX First Alert Weather App will allow you to stay up to date - it will even tell you how far away the lightning is via push notifications. A very helpful tool to have during football season!
Baylor vs Auburn (at McLane Stadium, 7 PM Kickoff)

The forecast for the Baylor vs Auburn football game (taking place at McLane Stadium in Waco, TX with a 7 PM kickoff) won’t be all too different from the Tailgate Forecast that we discussed above. The first Baylor football game of the 2025 season kicks off on Friday night, so the forecast is essentially the same! Scattered showers could linger around the area pregame and around kickoff time, but should start clearing out once the game starts to get going. It wouldn’t hurt to be prepared by bringing an umbrella or a poncho, but before you do, make sure you check the item guidelines at McLane Stadium!
Texas A&M vs UTSA (at Kyle Field, 6 PM Kickoff)

The forecast for Texas A&M vs UTSA is slightly different than that of Baylor’s forecast, but the messaging is largely the same. 19th ranked Texas A&M’s first football game of the year kicks off against UTSA at Kyle Field in College Station on Saturday, August 30th at 6 PM. The rain chances are largely the same of those on Friday, with a 40% to 50% chance for scattered showers pregame, and decreasing to about a 20% to 30% chance around kickoff. Showers should clear out as the game goes on, with temperatures falling into the mid 80’s by halftime, and upper 70’s lower 80’s on the way home.
Central Texas State Fair (Cadence Bank Center in Belton, Thursday Through Sunday)

The Central Texas State Fair is taking place in Belton at the Cadence Bank Center from Thursday, August 28th until Sunday, August 31st. The forecast for Thursday is actually quite simple: highs in the upper 90’s with lots of sunshine! If you want to go to the fair with the best chance of avoiding showers and thunderstorms, Thursday will be the day to do so. A 30% and 40% chance for scattered showers returns Friday through Saturday, with an increased 60% chance on Sunday, so you could be dodging a shower here and there at the fair this weekend. Good news is, when it isn’t raining, temperatures will stay in the mid to upper 80’s, so it will be quite comfortable outside! That is the trade off - you can either sweat and have no rain on Thursday, or be comfortable temperature wise, but dodge showers each afternoon this weekend.
