KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - A man held at the Bell County jail on an animal cruelty charge refused to surrender a severely malnourished and wounded dog, at one point telling police it would be “God’s will” if the canine died, an arrest warrant affidavit states.

Jeffrey Yuzon Ignacio, 45, on July 11 remailed jailed on charges of cruelty to a non-livestock animal, driving with a suspended license, harassment and evading arrest. He is being held on bonds totaling $113,000, according to online jail records.

Police arrested Ignacio on July 5, alleging he “intentionally, knowingly and recklessly tortured, and in a cruel manner, caused serious bodily injury” to the pit bull.

The dog was housed “in a feces strewn environment with a known open wound” and Ignacio allowed the dog to “chew off its own hind foot,” the warrant states.

According to the arrest warrant, Ignacio was known to police officers due to ongoing efforts by Killeen Animal Control to get him to surrender the “severely injured pit bull.”

The warrant states Ignacio had “posted photos and videos to social media of the dog, showcasing the obviously suffering canine and requesting donations.”

Police officers attempted to contact Ignacio multiple times, but the man refused to surrender the dog, according to the warrant.

Once he was taken into custody on outstanding warrants during a traffic stop, Ignacio reportedly gave police permission to enter his home to rescue Dubz.

Ignacio reportedly told the officers, “you know what? Do it! He’s going to come back to me.”

Police officers rescued the pit bull - known as Dubz - from a residence in the 100 block of Gowan Drive.

When police and animal control entered the residence, they found Dubz lying on a used mattress inside a bedroom surrounded by feces and urine, “licking the nub of what remained of his hind leg.”

An officer noticed the dog’s right hind leg was “completely missing its paw and hock, and what remained of the upper leg was an open wound exposing muscle, tendons, tissue and bone,” police wrote in the arrest warrant.

A water bowl was located nearby, but required the mutilated pit bull to crawl on its injured leg in order to reach it, police said.

The pit bull was “extremely underfed,” police said, adding that when animal control officers picked up the dog, “decaying flesh and signs of decomposition could be seen on what remained of the dog’s thigh and hind quarter.”

Dubz was taken to an Austin area dog rescue where he is receiving medical care, police said.
